An A-Z Guide to Using Descript: Edit Video as Easily as Editing Text!
Do you want to edit videos quickly and professionally without struggling with complex software? Discover Descript - the groundbreaking AI video editing software that makes video editing as simple as editing a Word document. This article will provide a detailed A-Z guide for beginners.
What Is Descript and Why Should You Use It?
Descript is an all-in-one editing platform that combines video editing, podcasting, screen recording, and most notably, the ability for text-based video editing. It automatically transcribes your video (converts speech to text), and you can cut, delete, and edit the video by manipulating that text directly.
- Easy to learn, easy to use: Intuitive, beginner-friendly interface.
- Text-based video editing: Saves hours of time compared to traditional methods.
- Automatically create professional subtitles: With just one click.
- Remove background noise with "Studio Sound": Audio quality is significantly improved by AI.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Using Descript
Create an Account and Install
Visit the Descript homepage and sign up for a free account. After successful registration, download and install the software for your operating system (Windows or macOS).

Create a Project and Import Your Video
Open the software, log in, and click "New Project." Give your project a name. Then, simply drag and drop your video file into the interface. Descript will automatically transcribe the video, which may take a few minutes.

Edit Video Using Text
This is the magic feature of Descript. The interface will display the transcribed text. To cut out filler words like "uh," "um," or a mistaken phrase in the video, you just need to find and delete that segment of text. Descript will automatically cut the corresponding video segment.
Add Automatic Captions
On the toolbar, click the "Text" icon (a 'T'), then select "Captions." Descript will automatically generate captions for the entire video. You can easily customize the font, color, and position of the captions to look professional.
Export the Final Video
Once you're finished, click the "Publish" button in the top right corner. Here, select the "Export" tab, choose your desired video quality (e.g., 1080p), and click "Export" to render and download the video to your computer.
